The London Australian Film Festival - in partnership with the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia - present the UK premiere of WINHANGANHA, a lyrical exploration of Indigenous representation from award-winning Wiradjuri poet, artist and filmmaker, Jazz Money.

This bold re-envisioning of archival collections was curated from thousands of hours of film, television, audio and music recordings, alongside new poetry written and performed by Jazz, and an original score by Filipino-Aboriginal rapper and composer Dobby (Rhyan Clapham).

Featuring excerpts from many films that LAFS/LAFF have screened over the years, this stunning work offers a poetic examination of how archives (and the legacies of collection) affect First Nations people, all while questioning power and position, storyteller and the stories told.

This screening will be preceded by Tanith Glynn-Maloney’s short film, FINDING JEDDA (2021), and followed by a pre-recorded Q&A with poet and filmmaker, Jazz Money (TBC). Australian snacks and sweets will be on sale, and a raffle will be held before the screening.

Co-presented by the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, with thanks to Jazz Money and Elena Guest (Winhanganha), and Steph Westwood and Orange Entertainment (Finding Jedda).

“Amidst the gathering smell of smoke WINHANGANHA unfixes a history from the hallowed archive wall.” –
Ruby O’Sullivan-Belfrage, The Curb

“Acts of reassembling records reminds us of what we carry with us, and re-arms us with vital connectivity. WINHANGANHA is a celebration of this.” – Alice Bellette, ACMI

WHY WE CHOSE THE FILM:
Laila (Director): "Gorgeous pastiche of indigenous films weaving a powerful narrative - I can’t believe how many we’ve screened in the past. Fizzes with energy.”
Stephen (LAFF Co-Programmer):
“I’m so proud that we can screen Jazz’s wonderful film, which is not only explores Indigenous screen representation in all its forms, but also acts as a telling refusal of the very act of archiving. This is bold filmmaking from a bold new voice.”
